WHAT IS SHOPPING ANGELS?

Shopping Angels is a program designed to provide services to those populations deemed especially at-risk for the novel COVID-19 virus that is spreading throughout the United States. To help ease the uncertainty, anxiety, and fear surrounding this pandemic, we are volunteering our time to personally deliver groceries or other shopping necessities to those who may prefer to stay within the safety of their own home at no additional cost.

This program is entirely volunteer-based – we do not ask for gas money, tips, or delivery fees!

We help many different types of individuals, to include (but not limiting to) immunocompromised individuals, those with heart/lung conditions, seniors, parents of young children, and those who are self-isolating due to possible exposure to COVID-19.

Shopping Angels was founded in mid-March by Jayde Powell, an undergraduate pre-med student at the University of Nevada, Reno. The program quickly gained national attention and now encompasses over 7,000 volunteers across the globe! We have successfully made 500+ deliveries, and that number grows higher each day!

We are always looking for new partnerships and ways to help out our communities on a local basis. This may take on many forms, whether it be our emerging partnerships with food banks and other not-for-profit organizations, advertising resources for our recipients (i.e. senior shopping hours), or connecting people who want to provide for those who are truly in need.

We know that, especially in this time of crisis, something as simple as going to the grocery store can be a source of fear and anxiety, especially for at-risk individuals. This doesn’t mean you should have to go without basic necessities like food, water, or toilet paper. If you want to stay safe and stay home, Shopping Angels will find those items for you and deliver them to your doorstep.

If you are eager to get involved and give back, be sure to check out our pages to receive services, volunteer, and donate! We are very excited to continue serving people long into the future, and hope to have you by our side while doing so!

Thank you so very much!

Board of Directors

Jayde Powell

Founder & CEO

Jayde is a pre-medical student entering her senior year at the University of Nevada, Reno. She is majoring in Psychology and Biology, and minoring in Addiction Treatment Services. She was raised in the world of service – both parents having served in the United States Air Force. She grew up volunteering with her mom for Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada, and has loved getting involved with community service ever since. Her inspiration for starting Shopping Angels was seeing her mom provide this service first-hand for a neighbor, and thinking of how her grandparents could benefit from this type of service. She hopes to see Shopping Angels grow in the coming years, constantly evolving to best serve the communities across the nation.

She plans to apply to medical school in the coming years in the hopes of becoming a physician with the United States Air Force. She has a passion for traveling and learning about new and different cultures, and she’s an avid plant mom. She enjoys spending time with her parents and siblings – most often watching Netflix together – and looks forward to adopting a leopard gecko in the near future!
